ASHOKA TREE

Ashoka is one of the most sanctify and legendary Trees. The scientific name of the Ashok tree is Saraca Asoca, and it belongs to Leguminosae Family. The birthplace of this tree is the Indian Sub-Continent, and it is found naturally growing in the Western Ghats and the Eastern Himalayas.

There is a myth that by planting this tree, negative energy is eliminated, and positive energy is transmitted. Planting Ashoka Tree at home or anywhere always create an atmosphere of happiness and prosperity, and also it will remove obstacles.

Ashoka is a rain forest tree found in the Deccan plateau and western ghats of the Indian subcontinent. The orange and yellow flowers in bunches turn red before they fall. The Asoka tree is considered one of the most sacred trees in Indian traditions, and it is dedicated to the love god the Kama. The word Ashoka means no grief in Sanskrit, and various parts of this tree are widely used for different matters, including medicinal purposes.

Morphological Characteristics

Ashoka Tree is a medium-sized evergreen tree that is up to 9m in height with beautiful flowers. The tree has numerous spreading and dropping branches with alternate and pinnate leaves in copper red when young and green in clour when mature. It is about 30–60 cm long. Flowers are in orange and orange-yellow dense combination with a very strong fragrance. The fruits are in flat black pods, ellipsoidal, oblong and compressed.

Usually, the bark of this tree is dark brown to grey or black with a warty surface. The bark of the old stems is dark green, often marked by bluish and ash white patches of lichens. Ashoka Tree is one of the leading home centres of the lichens. The thickness of the bark varies from 5mm to 1cm. Normally Ashoka trees have flowering and fruiting periods from January to July. The seeds are ellipsoid-oblong and compressed. Ashoka tree is distributed throughout India, Naturally very frequently in South India, Sri Lanka, Orissa and Assam. Seeds are the most suitable propagation material. And also, mature seeds are collected from more than five to six-year-old plants in December- January.

Nutritional Value of Ashoka Tree

Several essential nutrients can be derived from the Ashoka Tree. It contains glycoside, tannins, essential oils calcium. It also contains iron and carbon, which are the carbon elements and the tree’s bark consists of ketosterol.

In Ayurvedha, the Ashoka tree is known for its spiritual qualities, and it has many health benefits. This tree is often associated with mythological beings; moreover, this tree is usually found at the gates of Buddhist and Hindu temples.

Uses of Ashoka Tree

The bark of the Ashoka tree is good for skin and used to prepare cosmetics and help to improve skin complexion. It helps prevent scantily, and difficulty in urination even acts as an antidote for insects bite. Diabetic persons can use the dried flowers of Ashoka Tree. Ashoka tree’s herb can act on uterine muscles and endometrium and thus provide relief from abdominal pain and other spasms. It also helps treat irregular leucorrhea, fibroids, cysts, menstrual cycles, amenorrhea, and other related disorders. Thus Ashoka tree is highly used to treat gynaecological and menstrual problems in women.

The herbs of the Ashoka tree will help remove toxins from our blood and, therefore, provide excellent benefits for our skin. It helps to purify the blood and prevent the onset of allergies and other skin disorders. The medicinal value can also cure burning and skin irritation of this tree. Drinking few drops of water mixed with crushed flowers of the Ashoka plant help to prevent internal bleeding. Ashoka flowers also help to avoid hemorrhagic dysentery.

When the seed powder is wrapped in betel leaves and consumed several times, it helps treat asthma in people suffering from that illness.
