GREEN ROOF
Eco-friendly Living
In a world where we give more importance to interior designing and ceilings, the consumer demand for making the building eco-friendly is becoming a common thing. The highly cemented and tarred roofs of urban buildings produce heavy heat that disturbs everyday living and working life. Even for stray animals and pets, the piercing heat shows harmful effects which threaten their habitat. Cutting down trees near buildings gives the reason for such uncontrollable heat inside. Working or living under such a shade results in many physical and mental traumas. Anxieties and other depressions are the miserable effects of such living conditions. The lack of vegetation leads to the build-up of carbon dioxide and other harmful gases which pollute the air. The urban environment often hostiles birds, and other creatures that affect their biodiversity very bad. These conventional roofs also cause other rainwater runoff issues.
Drastic climatic changes are one of the major issues of urban life. This is mainly caused by harmful gases released by air conditioners, refrigerators, industries, and vehicles. CNG, methane, carbon dioxide, and sulphur dioxide are a few among those. These gases trap the sunlight that reaches the atmosphere of the earth. This leads to an increase in atmospheric temperature, which triggers climatic issues ranging from glacier melting to floods, and many more. To alleviate these problems, the adoption of “Green Roofing” methods are necessary. This type of roofing helps to cool both the workplace and living space.
Green roofing is how the commonly neglected roof area of a building is widely used for growing flora.
These roofs are planned and constructed by experts so that it gives more importance to greenery. Green roofs last for a more extended period than other conventional roofs. It is more affordable and reduces additional unnecessary costs of installation. These roofs give both humans and pets a great retreat with a calm and blissful atmosphere. This roofing never disrupts the urban interior of the construction but indeed enhances its entire structure. Green roofs can absorb rainwater, purify the polluted air, and reduce the heat inside while maintaining the necessary light indoors.
These roofings are comprised of two primary forms, namely intensive and extensive. As the name suggests, the intensive method is for a bigger load, acts as a conventional garden with trees, shrubs, lawns, flowerbeds and seating areas. They are almost like a mini-park. Trees, shrubs or any plants with benches and walking spaces are included in this method. While the extensive method is for lesser load and without trees. It is easier to instal and maintain.
Green roofing has social, economic and environmental benefits. They absorb rainwater by controlling water leakages, acts as a stress-relieving element, provides insulation, creates habitat for birds, plants and other creatures, increases compassion for others, decreases the heat island effect of urban life, gives an aesthetic feel to the ones living, purifies the polluted air, provides a clean and refreshing atmosphere. These roofs are installed in almost every modern companies and cities for the welfare of people and ecosystems.
